Experimenting with Chapters...

When it comes to drafts, you may stumble across idea after idea. And in drafts that grow from your first rough draft, you might feel that a chapter can be either extended, or be split into two chapters. I call it "experimenting with chapters."
Yep! I find myself doing that a lot lately with my 2nd draft to Book 3 of the Dolphin Princess series.

Funny how that is: When I had first started working on the second draft, I had 29 chapters (with prologue and epilogue). But now, I find myself with 33.
Why do you think that is? Well, of course... experimenting with chapters. I'm deciding which chapters need to be extended, and which ones would work as two separate chapters.

And this was part of why I had to take chapters out of Book 3 to save for Book 4 (I'm talking about 6 chapters being taken out of Book 3, because those chapters would make a great story for Book 4). Now, I guarantee you that the 6 chapters that are being squared away in a different journal would, of course, be split into separate chapters as well. So, it's like a map (watch this):

CHAPTERS: (what they might look like, if they were spliced)
1       2       3       4      5       6
 |        |        |        |       |        |
V      V      V      V     V      V
| |       |      | |  |    |  |      |        |

For example, if I'm working on Chapter 3 in one draft, then it would most likely be split into three different chapters, because of how I want my story to go.
In case of the map above, instead of starting and ending with 6 chapters, I might go from having 6 chapters... to 10 (Though, there's going to be more chapters than that, I assure you. This was only an example).

With that said, the number of chapters for Books 3 and 4 are still subject to change, because I'm still experimenting with them. Therefore, the number of chapters might be bigger than 10... or 33... I don't know--I'll figure it out.
