Why There's a Place called "Lavour" in the Series...

When I was writing Dolphin Princess, I wanted to create a human world for my main character Silhouette Loft. Now, that part was interesting, because I've only been to a few places outside my hometown: Corpus Christi, TX, Oklahoma, Missouri (mainly where the arch was), and Chicago, IL (only to visit family). I wasn't much of a traveler, and I didn't really watch any travelling shows.

In the original (rough) draft, I wrote that Silhouette had spent her human years in New York (or as I would nickname it "Big Apple"). But the only problem with that was that I've never actually been to New York--it was like trying to build a house if you haven't built a house before. So, I had to invent a town that had the similar feel of New York, because I liked the hustle-and-bustle-type atmosphere that I would see in movies.
And as time went on, I was thinking: "What if that town had to go through something, like the Great Depression...?" Well, you'll see when you read the series.

Now, the name: Lavour. How did I ever come up with a silly name for a town?
Well, part of "Lavour" is part of the word "lavish," which is what Silhouette's adopted parents are about--the couple lives a lavish lifestyle with shopping trips, extravagant parties, etc. And seeing that the first book takes place in the 1920s (the Roaring Twenties), what could be more appropriate than to showcase the Loft living this lavish lifestyle. So the name "Lavour" stayed in the final draft.
But, with every good thing, there has to be an end to it... Let's just say if you knew from U.S. History what happened during the 1930s, you'll probably get the idea on the fate of Lavour.
